A Lizard's Tale.

Last night, Miao was feeling hot and wanted to enter the air-conditioned room his human mom was in. Unfortunately, he was off limits. He tried to enter anyway, walking into the room nonchalantly together with his human dad. But his mom noticed him and shooed him away; Miao jumped and ran out. I saw Miao waiting outside the room and called to him to follow me to my room. We were walking together in the hallway when suddenly, Miao ran ahead of me, his thighs jiggling, and went straight to under my bed. He caught a lizard. He carried the lizard in his mouth and was heading towards his mom's room. I suppose he was going to offer the lizard to her. On his way, he put down the lizard for a second but the lizard ran away. He caught it again but its tail had been slashed by his claws. Miao picked up the lizard in his mouth while the severed tail just bounced and jiggled about. He laid the lizard in a corner and, seeing that it was now a less-than-perfect lizard, probably decided against gifting it to his mom. He just watched the lizard, eventually got tired of it, and made no motions to catch it when it ran away.

This morning, as his mom was getting ready to take a bath, she noticed an icky, tailless lizard in the shower area. It scampered away. Miao washes his paws off the whole deal.

Miao says...

"...eypreel, don't tell them the story about my two enemas again!"

Cats, The Musical.

Miao was treated to a cat opera this morning at around 4 am. I woke up to hear two cats yowling and went down to investigate. There they were, right in front of our lanai's bay window, on the foot path of the garden. Two cats, nose-to-nose, meowing at each other. They were a black and white cat and an orange cat. Miao was watching them safely from the ledge of the lanai window, like a balcony seat at the opera. I was too sleepy to watch and wait how the story would unfold so I just left them and went back to bed.

Safe place.

After his lock up, I now wonder if Miao is agoraphobic. I was looking for him early this afternoon after I let him out and couldn't find him. Later, when I went to answer the phone, I passed by this blue and white vase next to it and saw Miao curled up in it! He looked up at me and he was so cute. I went to get the camera but when I got back, Miao had already stood up and was getting ready to jump out.

Reprieve.

The cat is free. His nephews left today, three days before their original plan of departure. As the boys were getting ready to leave, I swung the bedroom door open to free Miao from his incarceration. Miao stepped out and walked to the top of the stairs and watched as his nephews went out the front door. Unfortunately, a couple of minutes later the Lux maintenance man came to clean the water purifier. As the guy walked in the front door, Miao trotted back to the bedroom. But as of today, the cat is free to roam the house again. Now, I have to reorient him to his litter box.

Fifth night of lock up.

Earlier last night, Miao was still hoping to get out, tried to slip out the door when I opened it. Later though, his nephews peeked into the room because they missed Miao. Peering through the door, they saw him under my bed and screamed "Miao! There's Miao!" Miao just looked at them. He was pretty quiet the rest of the night and didn't make too much of a fuss in wanting to leave the room.

On a related note, Miao's nephews really miss him. The younger one even volunteered to be "Miao" for the evening and crawled around the living room floor going "meow, meow."

Fourth night of lock up.

Miao is getting restless. He wants out. Yesterday, he was quick enough to slip out the door when I opened it. I let him walk out into the hallway a bit then I carried him back to the room. He complained, of course. Early last night he was meowing, asking to be let out. Wawa.

Third night of lock up.

Judging from his litter box, Miao had a pretty busy night. Continued to do more of his business this morning, too.

Morning buffet.

After eating his tuna, Miao has a grooming ritual...

Second night of lock up.

Miao now knows why we keep him locked up in the bedroom. He heard his human nephews playing and screaming through the closed door and, in his mind, he's holed up in the bedroom for his protection. It's not that he's scared of his nephews, he likes them a lot but they can be rough and loud and bothersome at times. He now does not make any motions of wanting to leave the room and seems content just sleeping and looking out the windows.

First night of lock up.

Miao was just staring at the bedroom door last night. He wanted to leave the room and do his usual night rounds. He just sat there, sphinx-like, in front of the door. He would also walk to my bed and meow a bit. I think he has now realized he is being locked up and he doesn't like it.

Miao under room arrest.

Miao's human nephews are coming over and staying for a week. Unfortunately, they suffer from asthma and cat hair triggers it. That means Miao will have to be exiled. The original plan was for him to be sent and locked up in the laundry area...but that would essentially mean solitary confinement. So now, he'll be locked up in my bedroom instead. His litter box has been brought up and he'll have 24-hour room service.
